As a British person, I really wanted this article to be well-informed. Brexit breaks my heart, not only because of the huge personal inconveniences it causes me in making it virtually impossible to be near my ageing parents AND live with my partner unless I become one of the rich (spouse visas are a joke in the UK and based on your income), but of course all the knock-on effects that it will have on the economy, people's sense of identity, and people's general freedom.

Saying that, I found this article to be completely ill-informed and simplistic. Firstly, "Britain" is not one sole entity. Just like the US, it is massively divided. 51% of people who voted in the referendum voted for Brexit, and many later regretted their decision (plus who knows how many of the kids who would be allowed to vote now if we had a recount would vote to remain). Personally, I barely know a single person who was pro-Brexit; we are all angry and heartbroken. You should check the film Brexit : The Uncivil War with Benedict Cumberbatch to get an idea of how the pro-Leave campaign manipulated the public; you'll see that Cambridge Analytica played a huge role in manipulating public opinion. So what I am saying is - there are far more things going on than it appears on the surface. Our opinions are being manipulated on a scale never seen before, and to simply throw slurs at people and call them "stupid" just comes across as very immature.

It seems that you are upset that the royal family were mean to Meghan and have somehow equated a few members of the monarchy with "Britain". Even if you take The Crown as the source of your royal knowledge, you will see that the royal family has never shown a whole lot of warmth and compassion toward its own members; it isn't as if this is some new, shocking change that is symptomatic of a newly emerged problem. The rot at the core of British society goes back far, far further than the last 20 years or so.

But yes, the privatisation of everything in Britain and rising nationalism are huge problems. I just think that this article needs to have been far better researched, and unless you have lived in the UK for a significant amount of time I'm not sure how well you'll be able to really make the kind of sweeping statements you are making.
