Here's another thing. Before Brexit, British citizens could go and study in the EU (for free, in many cases - Sweden, Finland, Norway etc have FREE tuition up to PhD level for EU citizens), or live in other EU countries as they wanted to. It was amazing. Now, we have been demoted to third world citizens. I live in the Czech Republic, and I'm allowed to stay here because I was here before Brexit and therefore am protected by the Withdrawal Agreement. However; if I wanted to move to another country, or continue my studies, I can't unless I find a job that will sponsor a visa for me (very competitive) or pay £20k a year for tuition (in Finland, the non-EU rate). I also can't move back home to take care of my parents if I want to bring my life partner with me, leaving them with the options of trying to find a UK work visa or... well... we could try getting married but the UK's Spouse Visa laws dictate that you must be earning over £18k a year (IN THE UK) to be allowed to bring your spouse over. That's my personal rant, anyway... a lot of EU citizens living in the UK or other expats out here have it far worse. We had an amazing thing, and we threw it away.

Yes, this might be karma for the British Empire. But, as usual, it isn't the colonialists and elites themselves who will suffer, but the ordinary people. Before you go around accusing the public of being stupid, why not consider *why* people were so badly informed? Why are we kept so busy by our society's economic demands that most of us don't really have time to sit around researching the intricacies of every new law and agreement that comes our way? Why is our education system so skewed? Why is our media run by Rupert Murdoch's empire? It's easy to sh*t all over the common man and blame them for the downfall of their country, but you are clearly somebody who has the time and privilege to write an essay pretty much every day. Try working full time and raising a few children during lockdown and see how politically informed you manage to be; if you have the mental and emotional energy to care. THAT is the reality for most people, and so it is up to those of us who do have the time to research things to go a little deeper than "oh, those dumb hicks voting for this"...
