I once read that Boomers had career paths - and we have "crazy paving". There's no way to even predict what sort of jobs will be profitable in the future... or if the financial system will even exist in its current form. I always felt the pressure to make kids decide - as early as 13/14 years old in the UK - on their future was ridiculous. Privileged kids with parents in-the-know are pushed into subjects that eventually bring them money (but not, perhaps, happiness) while well-meaning parents, like mine, told me to "do whatever made me happy" - which was nice, but led me to a state of paralysis when it came to looking at job adverts, wondering what I was actually qualified to do.

We need to be multi-skilled, adaptable and flexible these days. It's exhausting, sometimes, and I envy those who could pick a "job for life" and stick to it sometimes... but other times I feel grateful that I might get to experience so many different things in my lifetime. *Sigh* - what a time to be alive, eh?
