I'm sorry to hear about everything you are going through. It will come for all of us sooner and later, and sadly most Westerners (I was the same until I met my amazing Indian partner) are so privileged, entitled and spoilt that we are - as you say - not paranoid about ANYTHING. I was in Berlin last week and I saw a guy casually leaving his phone on the ground like it was clean/not going to get stolen. People laugh at the thought of saving food - assuming they will always be able to buy plenty from the shops, even when empty shelves during COVID showed them that this wasn't true (they have very short memories).
