My partner and I just read that together and couldn't resonate any more with it!! But this isn't just about COVID... this is about pretending that Capitalism is OK while we enter into a mass extinction. For my partner, it's about joining meetings where his CEO enthuses about how they're planning to "triple their profits" while his family back home live by a disappearing coastline with increasingly uninhabitable, hot summers. For me, it's trying to promote my coaching business and telling people to find their purpose and follow their dreams while I read that I may not live past 60 thanks to pollution and soil erosion and the mass famines and pandemics that may sweep the world. It's being told, every day, that we need to be popular, beautiful and rich, in a world where the financial systems may well crash and burn any day - but if they don't, we may end up being controlled by any number of world powers who want to monitor, track, control and sell to us using artificial intelligence algorithms.
I actually realised a while ago that a lot of people who seem confused about whether they are introverted or extraverted are, in fact, *energised by people they can be themselves around, and exhausted by people they have to pretend around*. That is, indeed, why we have "Zoom exhaustion" - it's f***ing exhausting to play along, pretending that what we have done with the world is still OK. We did some pretty cool things, humanity, but we also did some horrible shit, and now it's time to heal that trauma, to come together and take a good, hard look at who we want to be going forward. So for all the pain it causes, I am so glad to see articles like this and these responses, because it shows me that at least some part of the collective consciousness is waking up from the stupor...
