When? Were you there? I'd like to see statistics. Perhaps Braitain had its golden day when everyone pulled together during WWII but it seems like everyone is forgetting how bad things were, economically, in the 70's and 80's. And how far back are we going? Were things all glorious and amazing in Victorian times, when the poor were literally imprisoned for being too poor (workhouses, debtors prisons) and the air was too dirty to breathe? Or shall we go further back to when public hangings were an excuse for a bit of entertainment?
