While I don't agree with the West dismissing anything from the East as unproven, we should also remember that just because something has been done for a long time doesn't necessarily mean it works - or will work for everyone. In this case, the argument against the products weren't "there's no proof this works" but rather "there is clear proof that this can be dangerous"... I know someone who went to a health retreat in India and they gave him a ghee enema... I mean, just because something is from the East doesn't suddenly imbue it with mystical wisdom (thinking so is its own form of "exotifying" racism, I would say).
