Yes! So, I have two very close friends from/in India who have told me how yoga is usually offered for free there and it is seen as sinful (or at least, not sacred/spiritual) to charge anything beyond a voluntary donation for it. So these friends were pretty surprised to hear about all the skinny white girls I know who went to India and paid $3000 for "yoga teacher training". We even went on a little Google search, and found some very expensive yoga teacher training courses in India that were... led by white, British dudes. So it seems that people will go to India to 'train' just so that they can say they have, as if doing yoga in India led by a British person is somehow more legitimate than just staying home (not to mention all the Colonialist history that makes this so uncomfortable).
My friend laughed, telling me that the signs for 'free yoga' around his city would have been in Tamil, so the foreigners would have no idea and probably end up spending thousands in a place that could be run by anybody. But I could also see that both friends were very upset about the white people making money from a practice that they had both been taught since they were 3-4 years old but would never ethically be able to bring themselves to charge money for...
Ooh, and don't get me started on "dharma" ;) - all I can say is, if you search "what is dharma" on a search engine you'll get (what I'm told is) a pretty accurate answer... but if you search "dharma coach" the meaning suddenly, mysteriously changes and you'll be accosted with white people suddenly telling you that it's something very different (and that you should pay them lots of money to help you 'find your dharma')...!!
